Nudgee Verge Garden
This large verge garden was converted with the help of the Nundah Community Enterprises Co-operative (NCEC)‘s youth co op members during August and September 2023 as part of the Banyo Verge Garden Pilot Project
It’s a long, flat verge with two street trees on a dead end. Even though there is no concrete path and there are no pedestrians, we need to keep a pathway to fit the council policy. The path is good for us anyway as we walk along to check out the plants and maintain the garden.
The verge is opposite a walkway between houses so pedestrians will approach the verge garden as they walk through.
Doing the verge gradually meant that neighbours had time to come across and ask what was happening. We reassured them that it wasn’t a food garden.
The new plants are small tubestock and we look forward to watching them group and fill out the space. There are gaps between planting for people getting out of their cars and walking from the road onto the verge.
