The City of Subiaco encourages residents to establish and maintain the verge adjacent to their property. The city encourages landscaping that uses low water use plants.

The Council’s annual Waterwise Verge and Garden Awards (to 2019) recognised gardens, and verges that contribute to the greening of business districts, aesthetic presentation of streetscapes and sustainable living practices. Photos of past winners are on the website.
