City of Playford - Verge Garden Policy
This policy assumes that you are going to plan your garden upfront and complete the planting within 14 days from date of approval – and that the garden design will stay the same. This doesn’t allow for evolving gardens or experimentation to see which plants suit the spot.
Council will maintain the verge unless you have applied to landscape and maintain the verge out the front of your house. You need to submit an application to Council. This policy also makes a distinction between front and side verges for houses on corners.
Once approved, Council staff will mark your verge with a green marker to indicate to mowing and maintenance teams that the resident is maintaining the verge.
If there is no tree currently planted on your verge, Council has the right to plant a tree.
Plants not to exceed 600mm at height at full maturity. Local native plants preferred – no food plants.
Where an applicant is not the established home owner, rather a tenant, prior approval is required from the applicant’s landlord or property manager.
